Salty Dog Charters is a fishing charter business located in Port Fairy, Victoria Australia, run by local fisherman Dan Hoey. We cater for different levels of fishing experience, from the beginner, to the passionate, from the young to the not so young. We cater for individuals (both male and female), families or a group of mates out for a day of fishing and exploring. We provide high quality equipment and everything you will need for a memorable fishing adventure. Alcohol is allowed on the boat (in moderation) and you have the option to play music while you catch your dream fish. Our aim is to provide you with an unforgettable day out on the water.
Salty Dog Charters goes that extra mile to put a bend in your rod and to give you interesting information about fish species, fishing tips and techniques. Passengers can be sure they will receive safety, experience, professionalism, and invaluable local knowledge. Salty Dog Charters prides itself on going that extra mile to make your day a memorable one out on the ocean by providing a more personalised service and offering one on one assistance to each passenger on board. The smaller boat, holding a maximum of 6 passengers ensures a more personalised atmosphere.

Dan Hoey was born and raised in Port Fairy. He has been fishing around the Port Fairy and South West Coast for the past 30 years. In the early days fishing for whiting, snapper and sweep in the bay, then later on venturing out into game fishing.
Dan has a passion for blue water fishing and has been chasing bluefin tuna, Albacore, Mako Shark, Yellow Tail Kingfish for the past 15 years. He regularly fishes inshore for pinky snapper, flathead and gummy shark and makes regular trips out to the Continental Shelf targeting Blue Eye, Trevally and Harpuka.
Dan also has years of experience as a skipper onboard an abalone boat, being responsible for the demanding job of operating a boat live, whilst ensuring the safety of both the boat and the divers, giving him invaluable experience of both diving and coastal waters. He holds relevant Marine qualifications (Coxswains Ticket , Marine Operators Certificate of Proficiency) and a First Aid (Level II) Certificate.

Our new boat is an ex Coast Guard 3500 Noosa Cat with twin 320hp inboard turbo diesels.
It is built to AMSA survey standard and is in current 2C Survey licensed to carry 8 passengers and 2 crew in a comfortable enclosed cabin.
With a cruising speed of 20-22 knots the Noosa Cat gets us to where we need to be quickly.
